​TABE® Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence in Adult Education

Minneapolis, April 3, 2017 – Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) announced a milestone anniversary for the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE). For 50 years, TABE has been a well-respected assessment tool for use in adult education. Today, TABE remains the most comprehensive and reliable assessment product in the education industry, providing a solid foundation for effectively assessing the skills and knowledge of adult learners.

“TABE’s history of achievement began in 1967,” noted Susan Engeleiter, Chief Executive Officer and President of DRC. “Since that time we have delivered five editions of the TABE test—TABE 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8, 9&10—and have expanded the TABE product family to include web-based administration (TABE Online), English language proficiency assessment (TABE CLAS-E), and solutions to improve instructor effectiveness and student achievement (TABE Professional Development).” 

Adult education professionals rely on TABE more than any other assessment in the country. Jane Silveria, State Supervisor at the Florida Department of Education, reflected on the history of TABE and her experience using the assessment: 

“As a long time user, I like to reflect on the changes in the test over the years. TABE has always managed to stay current with the trends. I remember TABE 1&2 and the emphasis on back to basics and even the testing of Roman Numerals.”

New TABE 11&12 and Website
Update To mark the 50th anniversary, DRC is introducing a new website for the TABE product line: The company also plans to release the newest edition of the assessment—TABE 11&12—later this year (pending NRS approval). Based on the new national College- and CareerReadiness Standards, TABE 11&12 will build upon the well-established reputation of the TABE family of tests and measure the necessary skills to be successful in everyday and work-related situations.

New Online Testing Platform
TABE’s 50th anniversary also marks the transition to a new online testing platform. Later this year, TABE will be powered by DRC INSIGHTTM, the industry’s most reliable online testing engine. With improved functionality, greater scalability, and a full-featured, accessible testing interface, the TABE Online experience will be even more efficient for instructors and more engaging for students.
